The Annual Conference on Disaster Preparedness and Response 2019 – “Reduce Risks · Build Resilience”, aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, information exchange, discussion of latest developments, networking and partnership building across different sectors of players in disaster risk reduction work. The event will bring together experts and practitioners, government officials, the scientific and academic institutions, the NGO sector and the private sector to share experience and discuss the strategies of disaster preparedness and resilience building in face of emerging challenges and complexities.
The term “resilience” has been defined by the United Nations (UN) as the ability of a system, community or society exposed to hazards to resist, absorb, accommodate to and recover from the effects of a hazard in a timely and efficient manner through risk management. The UN also states that “resilience” can be built at various levels, from individual level to household, community, country or a region.
This Round Table session brings together experts from different sectors to examine the topic and discuss how resilience could be enhanced via collaboration.
