The e-commerce industry has been a major disruptor in how we conduct businesses globally. But as with every industry, there are inherent risks associated.

Join Alan Chan, the Chief Risk Officer of Lazada, as he shares the importance of Trust & Safety (Risk Management) function in tech companies. He will share the cross-functional collaborations and machine learning in Lazada that help his Trust & Safety team to mitigate and assess risks.

Alongside, Andrew Mahony, Regional Director, Financial Services & Professions Group at Aon will share the market’s view of Trust and Safety in the digital economy.

Andrew Mahony

Andrew leads Aon’s cyber practice in Asia. He has over 12 years of experience advising organisations in APAC to better understand their risk exposure and how risk transfer solutions can be tailored to address their needs. He also advises on complex claims and policy wording efficacy across financial lines insurance policies. 

Andrew has worked with clients across a range of industries including finance, technology, retail, aviation, marine, manufacturing and telecommunications throughout Asia.  He is recognised as a cyber risk thought leader, having delivered workshops and tabletop simulations throughout the region on the evolving cyber threat landscape and cyber insurance market trends.

Before joining Aon in Singapore, Andrew was a Senior Associate at a leading Australian insurance law firm.  As a lawyer, Andrew provided coverage advice to major insurers and defended third party claims, specialising in professional indemnity, and directors’ and officers’ liability.

Gordon has more than 11 years of experience in Enterprise Risk Management and Corporate Governance. He started his career with a professional consulting firm providing risk advisory services to Government, Healthcare and Real Estate clients in Singapore and the region. Gordon moved to an in-house role heading the risk function with Fortis Healthcare, and subsequently to Tigerair where he headed the risk and internal audit department.

He is currently with regional e-commerce giant Lazada Group where he leads a team providing risk assurance to the group’s regional ventures.

Gordon graduated with a First CLass Honours in Accounting from Nanyang Technological University.

Alan Chan

Alan Chan is the Chief Risk Officer for the Lazada Group, and leads the Cybersecurity, Trust/Safety and Enterprise Risk functions. Together, these capabilities ensure our fast-growing business remains sustainable, healthy and secure. Alan is also the Head of Alibaba’s International Risk Capability Platform to support the global business units outside China. 

Alan has a background in strategy and analytics, and has led numerous organisations through their digital transformations. Before joining Lazada, Alan spent 13 years in consulting with Accenture, where he was the Managing Director and Partner of the China Accenture Digital team. His passion for digital marketplaces led him to the Alibaba Group in 2016, where he took on management roles in marketplace policy strategy, data analytics and platform governance. 

Outside of work, Alan engages actively in university collaborations and serves on the ex-officio boards of several Asian startups. He received his Honours Degree in Economics and Statistics from the National University of Singapore.

Jeffrey Toh

Jeffrey is a member of FM Global’s Business Risk Consulting (BRC) team in the Asia Pacific region. BRC services take a strategic approach towards helping clients identify the critical processes that drive their businesses and quantify dependencies on those processes. Through Business Impact Analysis (BIA), BRC helps clients to better understand the financial exposures to their businesses, to strengthen business resilience and develop effective risk management strategies.

Jeffrey joined FM Global in September of 2018. Prior to joining FM Global, Jeffrey was a Risk & Compliance Manager in the Group Finance department of The Great Eastern Life Assurance Company Limited, where he specialised in business process improvements and developing risk strategies. Prior to Great Eastern, Jeffrey served as a Corporate Improvement Manager in a publicly listed supply chain management company. He also had experience in performing financial statement audits in a range of industries, during his stint as a Senior Assurance Associate in Deloitte.

As a member of the Business Risk Consulting Group, Jeffrey is primarily responsible for conducting Business Impact Analysis, working in partnership with FM Global clients, to fully identify and quantify the client’s financial exposures as they relate to property and business interruption loss potential. The analysis Jeffrey performs often result in the identification of significant exposures that were previously unknown or not fully understood by the client, which potentially has a material impact to risk management decisions.

Jeffrey holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. He is also a certified Chartered Accountant.
